Studio Assistant Position

DESCRIPTION:

32-40 hours a week

The Studio Assistant will manage a range of admin and production aspects of artist’s studio, with room for growth to a Studio Director position. Administrative duties include external communication, general project management, purchasing, scheduling, updating inventory lists and website, travel arrangements and liaise with various galleries, fabricators and studio visitors. Studio functions include prepping of materials (paper, weaving, ceramics), editing photos, printmaking, studio organization/maintenance, packing/shipping.

Studio Assistant should possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a studio assistant/administrative role. Knowledge and well-proven skills are required in all aspects of organization, scheduling, commonly used basic office software systems, data management, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills.

Experience with Pages/Microsoft Word and Numbers/Excel, and Photoshop is required. InDesign skills are a plus. Prior weaving, printmaking and/or ceramic experience are a plus, but not required. The position requires the ability to balance multiple tasks between between hands- on production and administrative duties. A critical component is paying attention to detail. Precision with handling materials, scheduling, archiving and correspondence are essential.

The Studio Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of studio operations in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Studio. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Maintain/update inventory/archive software and website

- Handle/prep large sheets of paper (precise gridding and trimming of paper)

- packing art

- Scheduling: maintain artist’s calendar, arrange travel accommodations, project deadlines

- Answering emails, processing mail

- Interface with various gallery registrars and liaisons

- Complete administrative forms and applications

- Purchasing - responsible for purchasing studio materials

- Create collaborative spreadsheets to track production

- Run errands

- Track contractor hours

- manage transition to new studio

- ability to lift 50 lbs

EXPERIENCE:

- 2 years of studio assistant experience

- Excellent written and verbal skills

- Technical skills including strong knowledge of excel

- Strong organizational and time management skills

- Attention to detail
